Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

From Chairman of Department's Desk

The department was started with the assistance of a German Catholic Church Organization in collaboration with the local Catholic Church around 1980. The department was started to provide trained manpower to the various industries that existed in the locality and those that were coming up in the country at that time. The first course to be offered in the department was a certificate in electrical installation craft, which was in three parts (i.e. part I, II, and III).

Since then the department has been offering craft certificate in electrical and electronics technology and diploma in electrical engineering (power option) programmes. The department has produced highly successful graduates in the aforementioned courses.

With the establishment of Murang’a University College through Murang’a University College order, legal Notice No.129 of September 2011 as a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, the department was placed in the school of Engineering together with Mechanical Engineering and Building and Civil Engineering.
