Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMME

Candidates wishing to study for the PhD EEE degree must satisfy the minimum University requirements. In addition;

  • Applicants shall be:
    1. Holders of a Master of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or any such qualification from MUT or any other institution accepted and recognized by Senate.
  • Deficiency
    1. Where a doctoral applicant is deficient in areas necessary for his/her doctoral research work, as determined by the supervisor/department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the student shall be required to register for relevant course(s) from a relevant Master programme.
    2. Such students shall be expected to register and pass the examination(s) in the relevant Master course(s) he/she has registered for.

DURATION OF STUDY

Three (3) academic years.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Expected learning outcomes of the proposed programme are:

  1. Attain capacity to train in a research and/or technical institutions such as a University.
  2. Carry out research and present their findings in scientific conferences and publish in scholarly journals
  3. Analyze and come up with innovative solutions to advanced and complex engineering problems

GOAL OF THE PROGRAMME

The Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme aims to offer:

  1. Technical Knowledge and Skills: Deepening of the knowledge and design skills in Electrical and Electronics Engineering through advanced training.
  2. Research Skills: Developing skills for scientific research through training in research methodology and rigorous research leading to a thesis.
  3. Innovative Skills: Providing innovative and entrepreneurship skills for development of home-grown solutions to Kenya’s problems and the world as a whole.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Student’s obligations

The student shall be required to attend classes, academic writing and seminar presentations and sit for all examinations to qualify for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

  • Lecturer’s obligations

Lecturers shall be required to attend all classes, give at least two continuous assessment tests (CATs) and a final examination, supervise projects/theses, grade and return mark sheets on time.
